Ronnie Margaret Farris McGinnis, a past president of the Mississippi Genealogical Society and the Family Research Association of Mississippi, and former publisher of two Mississippi-oriented genealogical magazines, announces the April 2011 release of a library quality, hard bound book titled, "My Mississippi Families: Home, At Last". Before arriving in Mississippi prior to statehood, these families had lived in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Ireland, Spain, and France. Most of these families settled originally in what later became counties in the southwest, central and southern parts of Mississippi. In addition to original research conducted at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, the writer traveled to the National Archives Library in Washington, D.C., the LDS Library in Salt Lake City, and reviewed genealogical collections in many other states.
The book, "My Mississippi Families: Home, At Last", contains more than 550 pages. The family narratives comprise 393 pages, with citations. The author has found birth, marriage and death records taken directly from Bibles, manuscripts, and ledgers in public and private documents and collections. Additionally, this book has numerous first-person oral history interviews and recollections, cemetery transcriptions, first-person notes and letters, military citations concerning family members who were in the Revolutionary War, or the War Between the States, multi-generational timelines, and five-generation lineage charts. The full-name index refers to approximately 2,500 first names. A section titled Lagniappe contains three autobiographies of older relatives who were children of the Great Depression and young adults during World War II.
The cost of this book is $60.00 plus $5.00 for shipping. To order, mail check or money order to Ronnie F. McGinnis, 1500 Eastover Drive, Jackson, MS 39211. The email address for pre-purchase questions is: billron@bellsouth.net.
